The couple have been separated for more than a year but US soccer player Landon Donovan has finally made the split official.
The LA Galaxy captain filed divorce papers today with the Los Angeles court seeking to end his three year marriage to Rules Of Engagement actress Bianca Kajlich, 33.
Although it appeared earlier this year as if the couple had reconciled, 28-year-old Donovan cited irreconcilable differences as his reason for the split in the documents.
In a joint statement the couple said: 'We remain the closest of friends and will always be important parts of each other's lives.'
The pair wed on New Years Eve in 2006 but separated in October 2009 according to the papers filed with the court.
It appeared the couple were reconciling after the World Cup when they were spotted attending several events together.
The pair also weathered a cheating scandal after a rumours circulated that Donovan had fathered a love child in the UK whilst he was there playing on loan for Everton.
The rumours turned out to be untrue with Donovan telling E! Online at the time: 'I will not be a Dad any time soon, which is good news for me.'
The star, who was the top goal scored for the US team during the world cup, plays for the LA Galaxy club team alongside David Beckham.
The team are currently in the off-season but return to pre-season training in the New Year.
